SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION: WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

The complicated topic of SEO has filled hundreds of books and articles, and would stuff this blog way beyond capacity, but if we’re talking websites that work, it’s central to the subject. After all, it’s one of the ways to get the people you want to your beautiful website. And it certainly illustrates that you have to put the right content in to get the best results out of your website, because in order to stand apart from your competitors and get the attention of your audience, search engine advertising is a must. Even word-of-mouth referrals use the Internet to look you up. And they can do it because of Search Engine Optimization.

SO YOU’VE GOT A WEBSITE: NOW WHAT?

In the series, Putting Your Website to Work, so far, I’ve provided brief descriptions of some of the major components of your website, but once you have it up and running, it needs specific areas of marketing support to function that way you want it to, whether you’re looking to build your organization or build your profits.

IMAGES: THE OTHER CONTENT!

A couple of blogs ago, I wrote about content copy, the text portion of a website which, along with images, makes up the heart and soul of any site. But, as important as words are for search engines and visitors, frequently, it’s the images that first engage people when they view a website, and images which influence sales and convey the lasting impressions of your business or organization. You want to impress people with the best visual representation of what your business or organization is about. A negative first impression will lead to no chance for a second one!

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT DESIGN?

If content is the heart and soul of a website, then design is the body it’s in. If it’s attractive and has a welcoming and persuasive personality, visitors will hang around, checking it out. They’ll tell all their friends, too.  Further, if that website’s easy to use . . . well, this could be the start of a beautiful, long-term relationship!

WANT A WEBSITE? NEED CONTENT? DON'T WANT TO WRITE IT?

Content is the heart and soul of your website‒it’s why people visit! They want the visuals to grab their interest, and text to quickly supply the information they want. Text is a vital part of most websites, and though it frequently takes a back seat when a website is created, it usually works best when it’s designed in along with the images. The amount of copy, the tone it conveys, and the ways in which language is used‒along with visual images‒all help determine the overall user experience. If it’s not interesting or if there’s a problem with readability, it may take less than ten seconds to lose the people who came looking for you.

The Law of Web Attraction

You've got a great looking website!  It's got excellent visuals and engaging copy.  But your website is only part of your online presence. To attract attention and visitors to your site, you need to augment traditional outbound promotion (print ads, TV, radio, e-mail, flyers and mailers) with inbound Web Attraction. That is, ATTRACTING prospects who are looking for what you have, and, once they're at your website, SELLING them your products and services. This flow of qualified visitor traffic results in a continous stream of prospects and leads for your business.
